WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR A JUNIOR STYLIST TO MAKE IT IN THE UK?

My journey as a junior Stylist in London made me hungry for success!
My obsession – to become a Senior Stylist in a top class Salon in none other than, posh Chelsea. A Salon known to the Stars. Star studded clientele on a daily basis. A dream come true. It has been the journey of a lifetime.

I have worked with countless Famous people, the perfect opportunity to namedrop one amongst the many and my favourite, none other than Eliza Cummings, DKNY model, Vogue cover model and cover model for a magazine called Dazed. I have also had the opportunity of going to colour conventions at the Excel venue and attended advance colour training with Wella just round the corner from the world famous Oxford street.

Not to mention working on fashion shows all over London. The latest one was in Wimbledon rage the Art Studio. Oh what a blessing it has all been. I highly recommend coming to London to any young Stylist out there with a passion for hair, hunger for knowledge and willingness to give one hundred and ten percent. That’s what it will take to prove you have what it takes to make it in London.
It’s a fast paced and lively city. It will gobble you up and spit your South African pace out. If u you don’t grab every opportunity, someone else will be there to take your place in a heartbeat. My advice, Be ready for hard work and attention to detail.

A few pointers: First and foremost, you need to be willing to work hard. If it means making tea and coffee just to rub shoulders with the rich and Famous or peek over the shoulders of a world class Vidal Sassoon trained Stylist. So be it! Remember it’s not just about what you know, but also about who You meet. You want to make connections in the business. It’s all part of your journey to the top. Many London based salons want to do their own in-house training before they let you loose on their salon floors. You need to be very good at blow drying.

I recommend doing an extra coarse in blow-drying or get some training from an Italian Stylist in London, all Italian Stylist are brilliant at doing blow dries. Being able to do a good blow dry, either curly or straight in 25 to 35 mins max, no matter what the hair length, is an absolute must. Your need to be patient with yourself and put all your effort into getting it right. You will reap all the benefit if you put the work in.

Familiarise yourself with the names such as, Vidal Sassoon, Toni and Guy, head Masters. What do they all have in common? World class Cutting edge training! These are the Top Salons in London. You want to get in and get trained to pave your future as a sort after Stylist. Vidal Sassoon is spoken of all the time. Do your research on techniques. In London you can be either a cutting stylist or a colour technician. There are also salons out there that only do blow dries or brading. There is a big variety.

Barbers are fast paced and completely separate. Most of which do not even have basins. The pace pushed you to perform. You will know what you prefer in no time at all. Once you have mastered the art of blow dry, half your battle is won. Every Salon provides their own in house training. But first you need to get in first. Blow drying is the key to securing your future as a Stylist.

Show confidence and be steady on your feet. When you go for an interview they will test your knowledge and technique to see what level they think you are at. Your paperwork will mean nothing. It’s all down to skill and technique. And confidence. Famous last words, if you don’t have confidence, then what do you do? Simple! Fake it, till you make it! It will all fall into place. With experience and knowledge comes confidence. I’m not saying brag your way in there either. I’m excited for you. If this is your career choice.
Get ready to fall in love with your job!
